Gender Equality

The Solution

Data is one of the tools that allows us to highlight inequality and gaps in the political, economic, social and cultural sectors.

Publishing and using accessible, comparable and timely data on various dimensions of the gendered inequality would stimulate private and public sector efforts needed to close these gaps.

Background for Gender Equality

Open Up Guide for the Care Sector

The Guide is based on the implementation of the Care Economy Indicators System of the Government of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (GCBA) carried out in 2021, and the implementation of the Care Economy Indicators System of Mexico City carried out by the city government of Mexico (GCDMX). Both projects were carried out by the Open Data Charter and local grassroots organisations, as well as specialists in the care economy.
We hope this Guide will become a tool for governments to use to make care work more visible and measurable as part of economic development. We also hope that as a result, all aspects of care work anywhere, whether carried out formally or informally, will be recognised and acknowledged, as well as the number of people that requires care, what type of care they require, the available supply of care through facilities, programs and infrastructure, and the working conditions and professionalisation of the people who perform care tasks.

Gitbook version

This version of the Open Up Guide for the Care Sector is an interactive version of the Guide and gives an overview of what an Open Up Guide is.

Opening up Data in the Care Economy

In Buenos Aires, Argentina

In partnership with the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, and with the support of IDRC, we are proud to introduce a project—the first of its kind—that designed and implemented a Care Economy Indicators System (SICCABA), in Argentina to improve the quality of care.

ENG

The project also aimed:

  • To highlight the unequal distribution of care work and contribute to decision-making in order to build more gender-equal relationships;
  • To make care and the demands on women more visible;
  • To create an efficient tool to design and monitor public care policies and
  • To generate dialogue between governments, civil society organisations, international organisations, academia and experts working on this agenda.
